I Want My Life Back!
Yep, I heard it again. A new client, a CEO, told my team prior to our first work session, "I want my life back. I love working, but I've got to stop working 80-hour weeks. Something needs to change around here."
I attended a luncheon that culminated with an insurance expert explaining his services to the attendees. As soon as the speaker turned on the projector to start his presentation, the bulb blew.
Many years ago, while on a business trip, I met with a new manager in Guatemala. She had been in her position for one month, was excited about its possibilities, and she had a great deal of energy.
We recently started a six-month leadership training program with a new client. The participants are accepted into the program only after they have been nominated by someone at or above their position in the company, and they have successfully passed the program’s interview process.
Quite often, when we set goals for ourselves, we set goals in ways that do no more for us than make us feel good at that moment. We set goals such as: “I’m going to find a new job within the next two weeks that pays me $5,000 more per year than my last job.”
A client recently asked me to help him identify leadership skills his daughter would need to develop to help her successfully takeover and lead the family business in a few years.
I had lunch recently with a woman who is starting to hate her job. She drives to work dreading the day and by 10 AM she's plotting her escape. By Wednesday noon, she looks forward to Friday and every Sunday evening her anxiety level bubbles up because Monday's coming all too soon.
