As you move up in an organization, you will change. You will be interacting more with people with management and leadership mindsets and behavior patterns. You will start to take on these behaviors too – in subtle and not-so-subtle ways. You’ll need to in order to do your job as a manager or leader. If you don’t, why’d you take the job?
You Will Change
Your friends will change. Some of your friends won’t understand your inability to discuss confidential managerial matters with them. Your true friends will understand and they’ll grow with you. You’ll grow away from others.
That’s life. That’s personal and professional growth.
